Is BeenVerified Legit? (2026 Review: Price, Trial and Limits)

BeenVerified is a real US people-search service. Its price after the trial, the auto-renewal, what it cannot be used for, and dating profiles.

You need to look up one person. The site offers a 7-day trial and asks for a card number, and you've read enough stories about trials that turn into a monthly charge to pause before typing it in. What you want to know is simple: what happens when the week is over?

Short answer: yes, BeenVerified is a legitimate company that sells reports built from public records about people in the United States. The points to know before paying are practical ones: after a 7-day trial the plan renews automatically at $36.89 a month, it cannot legally be used to screen tenants or employees, and its site names no dating app. If your question is whether someone has a dating profile, it is not the tool built for that.

This page follows the order of the questions you're likely asking: what BeenVerified is, what it costs once the trial ends, what you're not allowed to use it for, whether it finds what you're after (dating profiles included), and which kind of tool fits which question.

One shortcut, depending on why you're here: if what you want to know is whether someone is on a dating app, BeenVerified isn't built for that, and its site names no dating app. CheatEye, our own tool, is: it searches Tinder from a first name, an age, a gender and a location, for $17.90 paid once, with no trial and no renewal. Run a search on CheatEye, or read on for the full picture on BeenVerified.

BeenVerified at a glance

What BeenVerified does, and how

BeenVerified's home page offers search tabs for "People", "Phone", "Email", "Address" and "Username", plus vehicle and property lookups.

A name search returns a report on a person in the US. A phone, email or address search returns a report connected to that detail. A username search, according to its site, may bring up "Other social media accounts, full name, contact information and much more", "where available".

The words "where available" matter. A report gathers what exists in the records the company can reach. For a person with little public trace, it will be thin.

Its FAQ lists the uses it has in mind: "checking out people you meet on online dating websites, trying to locate old friends, and learning more about those in you or your family members' lives". If that's why you're here, start with the signs that a dating profile is fake.

What it costs once the trial is over

This is the section to read twice if the card is already in your hand.

Three things to know before you pay.

Many articles quote $26.89 a month. The price on BeenVerified's own page on 6 October 2026 was $36.89. Check it yourself before paying, since prices change.

It renews by itself. In BeenVerified's words: "your membership will be automatically renewed to the same term you originally signed up for, until you cancel."

A single report means a subscription. If you need one answer, you still start a membership, and you must cancel it.

Say you start the trial to look up one phone number. You get your report, close the tab and think no more about it. Closing the tab doesn't end anything: unless you cancel, the membership renews, and then renews again.

Most complaints you will read about services of this kind are about that last point: a charge that arrives after a trial the buyer forgot. The renewal is stated on the pricing page. It is easy to miss. So if you sign up, decide the same day whether you're keeping it.

What you are not allowed to use it for

BeenVerified states on its site that it "is not a consumer reporting agency and does not provide consumer reports pursuant to the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA)". In practice, that sentence draws a line between personal curiosity and decisions about other people's lives.

This is a legal limit on the buyer, and it is the reason these services are sold as personal lookups.

Does BeenVerified work?

It does what it describes: it compiles records. Whether the report is useful depends on what you were hoping to learn.

  • A US address history, relatives, phone numbers. The core of the product.
  • Social media accounts under a known username. Sometimes, "where available".
  • Anything about a person outside the US. Nothing. BeenVerified does not search international records.
  • Whether someone is on Tinder, Bumble or Hinge right now. Not something its site promises.
  • What someone writes in private messages. No lawful service provides this.

We did not test it, so we give no accuracy figure. Be careful with pages that do: none of the ones we read explained how they measured.

Does BeenVerified find dating profiles?

Its site does not say so. On the four pages we read (home, FAQ, username search and pricing), no dating app is named. The word "dating" appears in one FAQ sentence, about "checking out people you meet on online dating websites", and in two customer quotes.

That sentence is easy to read too generously. It means you can look up a person you met on a dating site, by their name or number. It doesn't mean that BeenVerified searches inside Tinder, Bumble or Hinge.

The same goes for the username search. It may surface public accounts using the same handle. That isn't a promise that a current dating profile will be found, and most dating apps show a first name, not a username.

So BeenVerified answers "who is this person?" when you already have a name or a number. "Does this person have a dating profile?" is a separate question, and other tools exist for it. We look at one of them in our page on whether Cheaterbuster is a legitimate service.

What users say

We do not quote ratings here. The scores repeated across review articles, for the Better Business Bureau and Trustpilot, differ from page to page and we did not read them at the source. Look at both sites yourself, and sort by most recent. If you are comparing services, we also have a review of Social Catfish and its pricing.

When you read reviews of any people-search service, three themes come back:

  • Billing after the trial, from people who did not cancel in time.
  • Reports that were thin or outdated, from people who expected more than public records hold.
  • Accurate reports that helped, usually about addresses and identity checks.

Is it safe and legal to use?

Is it legal to buy a report? Yes, for personal use in the US, within the limits above.

Will the person find out? BeenVerified says reports "are confidential" and the person "is not notified".

Can you use what you find to follow or pressure someone? No. Harassment and stalking laws apply whatever the source of the information.

Alternatives, by the question you are asking

The right tool depends less on the brand than on what you're trying to find out. For the photo question, we compare image search and face search options on a separate page.

The third line is ours. CheatEye searches Tinder for a profile matching a first name, an age, a gender and a location, with an optional photo, and Bumble, Hinge, Happn and OkCupid can be added. When a profile is found, you get the profile's bio and photos, its last activity and the last place it was used. The person isn't notified. A search costs $17.90, the other apps $12.90 more, with no subscription.

Its limits, stated plainly: it does not search by phone number or email, it gives no address or background record, it does not read messages or show a live location, and a profile it finds may be old. For most of what BeenVerified does, CheatEye is not a substitute. We compare more tools in websites to catch cheaters.
